WIEGAND, ROBERT

Robert G. "Bucky" Wiegand, age 86, of Novelty, on Tuesday, September 9th, 2008. Born on February 6th, 1922, in Cleveland, Ohio. Cherished son of Wilfred and Ella (née Schilter), brother of Howard and Eileen (all deceased). Beloved husband for 60 years of Bianca (née Zaffarano), loving father of Roger (Jean Milburn), Garry, and Wendy (Jerry "Skip" Pliml), cherished grandfather of Katie Frantz, Adam and Annamarie Wiegand, Adam Pliml, Jennifer Malicki, and Lisa Tarr. Great-grandfather of Faith and Matthew Tarr and Alyssa and Bobby Malicki. Father-in-law of Bill Frantz. Served in the Navy on board the aircraft carrier USS Casablanca from 1942 to 1946, and graduated from Case Western Reserve in 1947 with a degree in accounting.

Owner of Wiegand's Lake Park, Bucky served as surrogate dad and mentor to many generations of teenaged park employees. In 76 years, he transformed the park acreage from a foreclosed farm in disrepair to a thriving venue for catered company picnics. In his later years, he planted and cared for thousands of trees, shrubs, and flowers on the property. He fed the birds, the deer, and mostly, the squirrels.
